What makes it special?
This is the only book (that we know of!) designed around prompts for beginners.
When you use this book to study Korean, you learn and use the language relevant to yourself and your life, instead of the language someone else decides you should know.
When you make sentences relevant to you, using grammar and vocabulary you actually need, you retain more and learn more effectively.
More than just language
You can't learn a language without learning a little bit about the culture.
Each chapter has a natural conversation and interesting information about Korean society and culture.
How does it work?
1. Read the Prompt
We carefully selected simple prompts for you to answer in Korean.
There are 24 prompts in total, including:
"What do you do for work?"
"What's your favorite season?"
"Do you prefer cats or dogs?"
2. Read an Example Answer
The example answers are simple, yet natural.
Below the example answer is a grammar and vocabulary breakdown.
All the vocabulary is listed (split into three groups; nouns, action verbs, and descriptive verbs) and all the grammar is color-coded to match our Grammar Book "Conversational Korean Grammar."
3. See Grammar Explained
Next, we take one sentence from the example answer and break it down. We explain the individual grammar components and how they are used to create meaning.
4. Practice Your Grammar
We give you one grammar form to focus on and give you practice problems to work through.
Answers are provided upside-down at the bottom of the page.
5. Practice Your Writing
To warm up your writing skills, we first provide additional questions.
For example, for the prompt, "what are your hobbies?" we also ask:
When did you start this hobby?
How often do you do your hobby?
Why do you like this hobby?
This helps you develop and expand your answer to the prompt.
6. Get Your Writing Corrected
We ask you to write your answer to the prompt in a complete paragraph.
Then, you are tasked with getting your answer checked and corrected by a native speaker (we recommend HelloTalk unless you have a teacher, tutor or friend to assist you).
7. Read a Conversation
Read a conversation that is simple, yet natural.
See the vocab and grammar used in context, and learn natural expressions.
8. Learn about Korea
At the end of each chapter is a page talking about something specific to Korean culture or society.
Usually these are words or concepts that do not have perfect English translations and need more explanation in order for you to understand their meaning.
Learn about things like 장마철 (the rainy season), 학원 (learning academies) and 호캉스 (Korean staycations).

"I got two PDFs for beginners: Conversational Korean Grammar and Writing Conversational Korean For Beginners. I use both books simultaneously.
I was so surprisingly shocked by the visuals and details and the teaching approach of the books. The illustrations are beautiful and captivating. Everything is color coded and easier to learn for visual learners like me. The rules are greatly explained. Most importantly the books teach you in such a way to write naturally and you learn how to use complex, connecting sentences from the start.
I used many other textbooks before and my main issue as a beginner that I may know many words but I could never write a cohesive, beautiful paragraph that sounds “smart”. I believe that even beginners should be taught how to write beautifully. And those books teach you that."
